Jilin medical university is ranked among 10 top universities of China. The university covers the largest land area in comparison to any other university in China. Jilin Medical University was previously known as Jilin Military Medical University (Jilin Air Force Medical University). The university was established in 1952 as Anshan Air Force Medical Middle School and then developed into Jilin Air Force Medical University. It was the only medical university of the Air Force. The university later merged with the largest of the military medical schools—the Forth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. The school was renamed at that time as Jilin Military Medical University of the Forth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA.

Until July 2004 it was one of the Chinese PLA (Peoples’ Liberation Army) Academies. The main purpose of the university was to train medical personnel for the Air Force. It was a military medical university with glorious history and fine tradition. In 2004 after the State Council and Military Commission reorganized the military medical schools the university became part of the national ordinary university system. It is now the only independent comprehensive medical university in Jilin province.

When the university reaches full enrollment there will be 10,000 full-time undergraduate students. The university recruits students from all over China. At present it has recruited more than 5000 students from 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions all over China . The university also takes part in the training of national defense students.

About the city

Changchun is a beautiful modern city, located to the northeast of Beijing, in the heart of the Northeast China Plain. Founded in 1800, it now has an urban population of about 3 million. Lying in the temperate zone, Changchun is neither too hot nor too cold, with four distinct seasons and an annual average temperature of 5.2°C. As a transportation hub of Northeast China, railways, expressways, and airlines dart out far and wide in all directions. Nonstop flights to Seoul, Sendai, Hong Kong, and other metropolitan areas are very convenient for visitors. A well-developed local traffic system, including bus, trolley, and light-rail can take you to every corner of the city.
Changchun is a paradise for gourmand. Restaurants and eateries are everywhere, offering various styles of cuisine, northern or southern, Oriental or Western. Supermarkets and shopping centers, large and small, exist side by side in the streets; you should not be surprised to find a Wal-Mart towering among them.

Jingyue Tan (Crystal Moon Pond) to the southeast of the city is known for its artificial forest area, the largest in Asia and a national resort with perfect ecological environment. The last emperor of the Qing Dynasty built his palace in Changchun, which is one of the three imperial palaces still remaining in China. Other scenic spots include the placid Nan Hu (South Lake), winter skiing resort within 3 hours of drive, etc.
Life for International students is pleasant. Dormitory rooms are furnished with nice furniture, TV-set, telephone and network terminals. There are reading rooms, cyber-cafe, and tea-room and fitness room in the building. Each year, the University hosts many academic and cultural events including seminars, forums, speech competitions and, performances on various topics and subjects. 150 student groups and organizations enrich campus life with colorful activities.
