It is one of the top medical universities in Europe. The university was founded in 1805. The MD course at the Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) takes 6 years and it is equivalent to MBBS in India. The class size is limited to 10-12 students so that teachers can focus on each student personally. Clinical subjects are started from the third year of study. There are various hospitals to which the university is bounded for the training and medical practice of the students.

Transport for students: Full-time students of this university are entitled to reduced tariffs on public transport. The discount is quite significant. If a regular unlimited monthly metro pass costs 2,000 Ukrainian hryvniainUkrain and its other territories, a student pass costs just 380 Ukrainian hryvnia(prices as of 2017). Full-time students of Ukrainian universities have the right to a 50% discount for travel on suburban trains (within a single region). The discount is valid from 1 September to 15 June inclusive each year. You can receive a discount when you purchase a single-journey ticket by presenting your student ID card at the ticket office. For frequent travel, you can get a travel pass or a transport card.

Ukrainian museums offer a great number of discounts for students. Some museums even offer free passes to students for example, at the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum) to free passes (such as to the Hermitage and the Kolomenskoye Museum). Don’t forget that you need to present a valid student ID card to get a discount. Each year in May, many Ukrainian cultural attractions are also open to the public free of charge as part of the Night of Museums. Visitors can attend offered special exhibitions, seminars, lectures, workshops, concerts and much more.

Shopping company and services also offer discounts for students. Many stores distribute leaflets at universities, libraries and cafes. Special promotions often run on the eve of student holidays and at the start of the academic year.

Meal expenses– in universities there are cafeterias which are subsidized by the government hence prices in these cafeterias are lower. The minimum shopping basket ((including bread, pasta, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, milk, and sugar) in Ukrain costs 2000 to 3000 Ukrainian hryvnia. There are lot of food options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Ukrainian people often eat very healthy meal which helps them keep their body in shape.

Cellular communication, internet- SIM-cards for mobile and tablets are sold on phone stores. For getting a SIM your passport is necessary. Ask in store for advice on the best rates (cost of calls, sms-text, data, etc.). The cost of a standard package of services ranges from 100 to 150Ukrainian hryvnia(USD 3-5). When you buy a SIM-card, the cost of the card is credited to the phone number account and then you top up the balance depending on the tariff plan.
